The best places for shopping in Milan

Milan is considered the capital of the Italian fashion. This is why every year streams of tourists head to this city, willing to renew their wardrobe according to the latest fashion trends. Many travel agencies offer shopping tours to Milan and other Italian cities. Shopping in Milan is classic for those who like great purchases since this is the city where the leading Italian fashion designers come up with their brilliant ideas embodied in fabrics.

The best period for shopping in Italy is undoubtedly during sales. Summer sales begin on the first Saturday of July and last till the end of August. Winter sales start on  the first Saturday of January and last until spring. However, if you really want to find good discounted things, it’s better to go shopping within the first two weeks of sales. As a rule, 3-4 weeks later all great clothes are already in their new owners’ closets.

If you are lucky enough to stay in Milan and would love to dedicate a couple of days to shopping, there are two options: you can wander round Milan’s boutiques or visit famous outlets. Most of the expensive and fashionable boutiques are grouped on via della Spiga, via Monte Napoleone and via Manzoni. On via della Spiga, for example, you can visit such boutiques as Dolce&Gabbana, Prada, Tiffany, Moschino, Tod’s and others. On via Monte Napoleone there are Valentino, Salvatore Ferragamo, Hogan, Dior, Gucci, Fendi, Bulgari and many other clothes and shoes boutiques and jewellery shops. On via Manzoni you can find such brands as Armani, Elisabetta Franchi, Patrizia Pepe, Coccinelle and a huge number of other boutiques that will satisfy any taste, including clothes, shoes, jewellery, furniture and leather accessories shops.

The advantage of outlets consists in permanent discounts, so that there is no need to adjust a trip to the period of sales. But if you manage to do it, you’ll break the jackpot – permanent discounts will be accompanied by seasonal ones. Serravalle, Foxtown Outlet, Fidenza Village, Vicolungo and Franciacorta Outlet Village are the most popular outlets of Milan.
